Cherchez la Curl

hair/style/life

Celebrating African women and natural hair and other random things I enjoy (music, travel, politics, economics, design), i.e. the blog is not always necessarily on topic.

Meaning of Cherchez la Curl

Cherchez la Curl is a take on the French phrase Cherchez la Femme (and also tag line for the magazine Elle), originally attributed to Alexandre Dumas (who, according to Wikipedia, had a pretty gnarly Afro), which translates as “find the woman“. “Cherchez la Curl” roughly translates to “find the curl”, and suggests this blog’s intention to cover topics related to natural/curly hair…and curl kind of rhymes with girl, which is kind of a pun on the original expression. Phew! A window into the circuitous way my mind works and the origin of the name of this blog :)

Il y a une femme dans toutes les affaires; aussitôt qu’on me fait un rapport, je dis: «Cherchez la femme!»
